So, we use a few alternative services. So, one of the main tools we use to get content to our TV is our Roku Box. Roku is a leetle box that allows you to stream content straight to your TV. Now, the Netflix streaming library isnt nearly as extensive as their DVD rental library. But if you dont mind watching things that have been out for a while, theres lots to choose from. Our kids use this service way more than Mr. FG and I do, actually. FG and I have really enjoyed the documentaries offered on Netflix streaming. Weve watched documentaries on nature, adventurous living like the one about people who bike from Banff, CA, to Mexico, the educational system, and the food system. And weve barely scratched the surface of whats available. If youre worried about the selection on Netflix streaming, never fear You can sign up for a free one month trial and youll have plenty of time to browse around and see if theres enough to keep you happy. If you want more content than whats offered on Netflixs streaming services, for an additional 7. DVD library, and once youve got that, the sky is the limit. And that 1. 5. 9. TV. Amazon StreamingPrime. Another option is to stream content from Amazon. If youre an Amazon Prime member, you can get some streaming content free, or you can pay a few dollars to download shows and movies. If you dont watch a lot of TV, this could be a better option for you than Netflix, but if you watch more than a few shows a week, Netflix is definitely going to save you money. You can try a free Amazon Prime 3. Day Trial to see if this would be worth it for you. All you need is an antenna, and possibly a digital converter box, depending on the sort of TV you have. One thing I really like about having Roku and Netflix instead of cable is that you have to be a little more intentional about your TV watching than youd be otherwise. With the streaming service, though, you have to browse and select what you want to watch, so its not nearly as tempting to bounce around between a bunch of shows. This saves time and reduces our exposure to advertising, both of which are great things in my book.
